When selecting an aquarium stand for your new aquarium, there are usually two choices; build it or buy it.  We strongly recommend that you buy it.  

Once filled with water, equipment, live rock, specimens, etc., an aquarium can become quite heavy.  Unless you are a professional carpenter and are experienced at building stands to support the weight of an aquarium, we suggest that you budget in a professionally built stand.  It may cost  little bit up front to buy a good stand, but if it keeps your aquarium from falling and flooding the entire house it will be well worth the investment.
